First international expansion of Özel Rumeli Medical Center into Asia and the Middle East
Iran & Japan Institutional Agreements — International Expansion at Rumeli Medical
During my tenure as General Manager at Özel Rumeli Medical Center in 2015–2016, I led the institution's first formal international expansion — personally traveling to Japan (Kyoto & Osaka) and Iran (Tehran) to conduct institutional visits and sign bilateral cooperation agreements with foreign healthcare organizations.
Research & Key Activities:
- Represented Rumeli Medical Center at institutional meetings in Kyoto and Osaka, Japan
- Signed a formal cooperation agreement with Tehran State Hospital, Iran
- Established official patient referral channels between Turkey, Iran, and Japan
- Presented the hospital's clinical capabilities to international healthcare decision-makers
Problem Statement:
- A mid-sized Turkish medical center with no prior international presence needed a credible, direct-approach strategy to open new markets in geographically and culturally distant countries
- Required simultaneous management of two entirely different cultural and institutional contexts
Final Outcome & Impact:
- First formal international cooperation agreement signed by Rumeli Medical Center
- Established active bilateral healthcare relationships with institutions in both Iran and Japan
